So I had this not-terribly-earthshaking idea to compile and post a collection of songs with the word "Something" in the title. Trouble is, I found too many good ones I wanted to include. Too many for one post, at least. So here's a bunch of songs about "Something," and it's part 1 of 2. Enjoy? ~ JH
1) Jakob Dylan ~ "Something Good This Way Comes"
2) Crowded House ~ "Something So Strong"
3) Duran Duran ~ "Is There Something I Should Know?"
4) New Edition ~ "Something About You"
5) Jamie Cullum ~ "Edge Of Something"
6) Claire de la Fuente ~ "Something In Your Eyes"
7) Sanctus Real ~ "Whatever You're Doing (Something Heavenly)"
8) Dave Gahan ~ "Saw Something"
9) Paloma Faith ~ "Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful?"
10) Nirvana ~ "Something In The Way"
11) Newton Faulkner ~ "I Need Something"
12) Christina Aguilera ~ "Something's Got A Hold On Me"
Okay, so I could've padded this one out to the usual 20 songs with several lesser-known gems, but I decided to stick with artists most people would know. You're welcome. Now enjoy it already! ~ JH
1) One Direction ~ "What Makes You Beautiful"
2) Rhema Soul ~ "Break Out"
3) Adele ~ "Make You Feel My Love"
4) Jewel ~ "Break Me"
5) Avicii ft. Salem Al Fakir ~ "You Make Me"
6) Toni Braxton ~ "Un-Break My Heart"
7) Michael Jackson ~ "The Way You Make Me Feel"
8) Britney Spears ~ "Break The Ice"
9) The Pretty Reckless ~ "Make Me Wanna Die"
10) Linkin Park ~ "Breaking The Habit"
11) Miley Cyrus ft. Johnzo West ~ "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go"
12) Judas Priest ~ "Breaking The Law"
13) James Morrison ~ "You Make It Real"
14) The Doors ~ "Break On Through (To The Other Side)"
Okay, so I heard this Beck song on the radio the other week, and I wanted to post the music video of it, but couldn't figure out how to incorporate it into a music post. (I'd already included a song by Beck in my "Mononymous Male Singers" post a few weeks back.) So I looked him up on Wikipedia and found out he was born in Los Angeles, and quickly decided that there was my angle. I would do a post of songs by artists born in the city of Los Angeles. It's a lame idea, I'll admit, but it did the trick. So here you have it, a song by Beck and 14 other people who were born in Los Angeles. Enjoy! ~ JH
1) Beck ~ "Where It's At" (He's got two turntables and a microphone...)
2) Belinda Carlisle ~ "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" (Actually, it isn't...but that doesn't mean the song's not good)
3) Natalie Cole ~ "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)" (I like her dad [Nat "King" Cole] a lot – I didn't know Natalie came out with this song)
Video wouldn't load properly – click link to view:
9) Katharine McPhee ~ "Say Goodbye" (It's so hard to say goodbye, though...)
10) Liza Minnelli ~ "New York, New York" (A native Angeleno singing a song about New York...makes perfect sense)
11) Keb' Mo' ft. Bonnie Raitt & Jackson Browne ~ "Just Like You" (One of the most important songs I've heard in quite a while)
12) Randy Newman ~ "You've Got A Friend In Me" (Anyone who's ever seen Toy Story once – or a thousand times – will recognize Newman's distinctive singing voice...and this song, too)
13) Elliott Yamin ~ "Wait For You" (Good song – I'd sort of forgotten about this one, but I like it)
14) Gwyneth Paltrow ~ "Country Strong" (Country strong, but Los Angeles-bred)
15) Emily Osment ~ "You Are The Only One" (Pretty generic teen-pop-crap by the sister of that creepy kid from The Sixth Sense movie)
